The Lok Sabha Speaker announced that the budget will be presented on 1st February

Union Budget 2026 date confirmed : Budget to Be Presented on February 1

Union Budget 2026 date confirmed: The Budget Session of Parliament will begin on January 28 and run till April 2, 2026. There was some confusion this year because February 1 falls on a Sunday and also coincides with Sant Ravidas Jayanti. However, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has clarified that the Union Budget will be presented on February 1 at 11 AM, putting all doubts to rest.

This year’s budget is special as it will be presented on a Sunday, which is quite rare. With government approval, Parliament will hold a session on that day.

The Budget Session will be held in two phases. The first phase will run from January 28 to February 13, followed by a break. The second phase will begin on March 9 and end on April 2.

Earlier, the Union Budget was traditionally presented on February 28, a practice followed until 2017 since British times. It was believed this allowed enough time to implement the budget from April 1. However, over the years, this system created problems, as states and ministries did not get sufficient time to prepare for new schemes.
