Stock Market to Remain Shut on January 26 in Observance of Republic Day
The stock market will remain closed on January 26th for Republic Day: This time, the stock market will remain closed for three consecutive days. After a tumultuous trading day on Friday, January 23rd, the market will experience a period of calm over the next three days. Following Saturday and Sunday, the stock market will be closed on Monday, January 26th, due to the Republic Day celebrations.
Not only the stock market but also the commodity market will be closed on Republic Day, and there will be no trading in the evening session either. On the previous trading day, Friday, January 23rd, the Sensex closed down 769.67 points, or 0.94%, at 81,537.70, and the Nifty 50 fell by 241.25 points, or 0.95%, to close at 25,048.65.
Typically, the market experiences significant volatility on expiry days, and Tuesday is expected to see a surge in expiries. On that day, not only will the NSE indices expire, but also the monthly derivative contracts of individual stocks. Tuesday will see the expiry of five NSE indices: Nifty 50, Nifty Bank, Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Midcap Select, and Nifty Next 50. Additionally, the F&O (Futures and Options) contracts of 208 stocks listed on the NSE will also expire.
