Deadline for eligible Central Government employees and those who have retired from the NPS to opt for the UPS
UPS: The deadline for eligible Central Government employees and those who have retired from the NPS to opt for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) is November 30th. Originally scheduled for September 30th, the deadline has been extended by two months.
According to the Finance Ministry, employees who wish to leave the old NPS and join the UPS now have only one week left. If they do not opt for the option by November 30th, they will remain in the NPS. Nodal offices will process all requests according to the established process. Key benefits under the UPS include the switch option, tax exemptions, resignation and compulsory retirement benefits, and more. All eligible Central Government employees and those who have retired from the NPS have been advised to submit their UPS requests on time to avail these benefits.
It is worth noting that after opting for UPS, employees have the option to revert to NPS later if they wish. In January of this year, the Ministry of Finance notified UPS for eligible central government employees through a notification numbered F. No. FX-1/3/2024-PR dated January 24, 2025.
