Train Fare Hike: This much Crore benefited Railways, Know Details
Railway Fare Hike: Indian railway hike train fare. Due to this cause, railways make a bumper profit. This new fare structure was issued on 26th December 2025. This hike affects the long journey passengers. According to the railways, this decision is expected to generate an additional revenue of approximately 600 crore rupees.
Under the new rules, there has been no increase in fares for passengers traveling up to 215 kilometers, especially those traveling in ordinary class. This means that daily commuters, students, and short-distance travelers will not be burdened by the fare hike. However, if the travel distance exceeds 215 kilometers, a marginal increase in fares will be observed.
Railway’s New Fare Structure: According to the railway’s new fare structure, for journeys exceeding 215 kilometers in ordinary class, an additional 1 paisa per kilometer will be charged. Similarly, in non-AC and AC classes of Mail/Express trains, the fare has been increased by 2 paise per kilometer. While this increase may seem very small, considering the millions of passengers, it can become a significant source of revenue for the railways.
For example, if a passenger travels 500 kilometers in a non-AC Mail or Express train, they will only have to pay Rs. 10 more than before. This means that a direct and heavy burden has not been placed on the passengers, but these small changes will result in significant gains for the railways.
What do railway officials say? Railway officials say that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the increasing operating costs, fuel expenses, and maintenance costs. The railways have long avoided major changes in passenger fares, but now they are trying to increase revenue through limited and balanced increases. This will help the railways improve their services, upgrade tracks, and spend more on safety and passenger amenities.
