New Rent Agreement 2025: If you live in a rented house, this news only for you. The government has made several changes to the rent agreement rules. In fact, the government has simplified the entire rental process. The new rent agreement has standardized agreements and will also facilitate faster dispute resolution. The new Home Rent Rules 2025  have been drafted based on the Model Tenancy Act (MTA) and the recent Union Budget.

It’s worth noting that under the new Act, it will now be mandatory to register all rental agreements within two months of signing them. The agreement can be registered either online through the State Property Registration Portal or at the local registrar’s office. Failure to do so could result in a penalty of ₹5,000.

What are the rules of the new rent agreement 2025:

-To avoid penalties, the agreement must be formally registered within two months. Failure to do so will result in a penalty of ₹5,000.

-Landlords cannot demand arbitrary deposits. The maximum rent deposit for residential properties is two months’ rent, and for commercial spaces, it is limited to six months.

-Landlords cannot increase rents abruptly. According to the new rules, any rent increase must comply with established regulations and require prior notice.

-Under the new rules, no landlord can suddenly ask a tenant to evict. The eviction process must be clear and must be communicated in advance.

-According to the new rules, special rent courts and tribunals have been established to resolve disputes within 60 days. This will prevent long-standing disputes between tenants and landlords.
