Stock Market Todayt: Sensex rose by 222 points; investors gained ₹23,000 crore: Indian stock markets closed in the green for the third consecutive day on Thursday, January 29. After an initial dip, the Sensex and Nifty staged a strong recovery and closed near their day’s highs. The BSE Sensex rose by 221.69 points, or 0.27 percent, to close at 82,566.37. The Nifty gained 76.15 points, or 0.30 percent, to close at 25,418.90. The Sensex witnessed a rebound of nearly 850 points from its day’s low.

Today’s surge in the stock market was supported by the return of foreign investors, who made net purchases on Wednesday after 15 consecutive days of selling. Furthermore, investor confidence was boosted by the economic survey’s expectation that a trade deal with the US would be finalized this year.

However, the performance of sectoral indices was mixed. IT, FMCG, consumer durables, pharma, and automobile stocks witnessed sharp declines. On the other hand, indices of metal, power, oil and gas, commodities, and utility stocks closed with gains of more than 1 percent.

Investors gained ₹23,000 crore:
The total market capitalization of companies listed on the BSE rose to ₹459.76 lakh crore today, compared to ₹459.53 lakh crore on the previous trading day. ​​Thus, the market capitalization of BSE-listed companies increased by approximately ₹23,000 crore today. In other words, investors’ wealth increased by about ₹23,000 crore.
