Sensex Falls 559 Points Amid Profit Booking; Nifty Below 25,900
Stock Market Highlights: Sensex plunges 559 points, Nifty slips below 25,900: Domestic stock markets closed with significant losses on Thursday. The BSE Sensex fell 559 points, or 0.66%, to close at 83,674.92, while the Nifty 50 also slipped 147 points, or 0.57%, to close at 25,807.20. The broader market also experienced pressure. At the close of trading, the BSE 150 Midcap Index fell 0.46%, while the BSE 250 Smallcap Index recorded a sharp decline of 0.86%.
According to reports, market sentiment weakened due to heavy selling in IT stocks during today’s trading. This was due to concerns about the impact of growth in AI on this sector. The rising US dollar and bond yields also exacerbated the overall negative sentiment.
Stock Market Highlights: Tech Mahindra, Infosys, and Wipro were among the major losers in the Nifty 50 pack, falling up to 5%. On the other hand, Bajaj Finance and State Bank of India were strong, rising to 2%. Market breadth remained negative, with 1,468 stocks advancing, 2,011 declining, and 175 remaining unchanged.
