Silver prices in India are currently rising sharply as global supply has dwindled and demand continues to grow. In the US, there are expectations that the Federal Reserve may soon lower interest rates, which is attracting investors to the precious metals gold and silver. Silver, on the other hand, is now used not only in jewellery but also in solar panels, electronics, batteries, and green technology. While usage is increasing, stocks are dwindling, which is why prices are rising.
Major global markets like London are also experiencing a significant shortage of silver, leading to a rise in international prices. Meanwhile, silver is purchased in dollars in India. When the rupee weakens, imported silver automatically becomes more expensive. This is why silver is consistently hitting new all-time highs on the MCX. Investors are also increasingly buying silver ETFs (exchange-traded funds), further reducing the available silver in the market and driving prices higher.
