PM Modi Calls EU–India Deal Historic, Says It Will Boost Trade and Supply Chains: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that a major agreement between India and the European Union, signed on January 26, is being described globally as the “mother of all deals.” He said the agreement will create significant opportunities for people in India and Europe and further strengthen ties between two of the world’s largest economies, which together account for about 25 percent of global GDP and one-third of global trade.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of India Energy Week 2026, PM Modi said India is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and that the India-EU trade agreement is expected to have a positive economic impact on both sides. He said the deal will give a major boost to manufacturing and also help expand the services sector.
The Prime Minister highlighted growing cooperation between India and the EU in areas such as energy, technology, and trade. He said the agreement will increase the confidence of investors and businesses to invest in India. PM Modi congratulated Indians working in sectors like textiles, gems and jewellery, leather, and footwear, saying the deal will be especially beneficial for them. He added that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to trade, democracy, and the rule of law, and will strengthen India’s global partnerships across sectors.
