On the observation, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) is starting a new platform for these types of people. Now, the UPI payments can be made even from feature phones without internet access, with just a missed call or voice command. With this, people living in hundreds of villages and towns of the country will also be connected to digital payment and will be able to take full advantage of it.
UPI 123Pay is a system launched by the Reserve Bank of India that makes digital payments easy even for feature phone users. You no longer need a smartphone, an app, or internet data; you just need your mobile number linked to your bank and a basic mobile phone with calling capabilities. Sending, receiving money, or checking your balance is possible with just a missed call or voice command.
The most significant feature of this system is that it is available in 12 Indian languages. UPI 123Pay makes it extremely easy to check balance, view past transactions, and manage UPI PINs. This system, which works without internet, will also reduce the risk of cyber fraud, making users feel more secure.
Indian Overseas Bank has partnered with Network People Services Technologies (NPST), and this facility will be available through the MissCallPay platform. This will open a new avenue for the country’s approximately 400 million feature phone users, who have previously been excluded from digital transactions. According to reports, approximately 850 million people in India still do not use UPI, making this facility a boon for remote villages.
