UPI Payment Failed or Sent to the Wrong Account? Follow This Online Complaint Guide
Lost Money on UPI? Here’s How to File an Online Complaint and Get It Back Fast: UPI is the most popular and trusted digital payment system in India. It handles around 85% of digital transactions in the country and nearly half of real-time payments globally. As UPI usage grows, cases of fraud, wrong transfers, and technical issues are also increasing.
If your money is deducted but not received, sent to the wrong UPI ID, or you suspect fraud, don’t panic. You can file a complaint and try to get your money back.
1)File a Complaint Through the UPI App (Fastest Way):
- Open the app you used (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, etc.).
- Go to Transaction History and select the transaction.
- Tap on “Report Issue” or “Raise Complaint.”
- Choose the problem and submit details.
- Most issues are checked within 3–5 working days.
2) Contact Your Bank:
- Call your bank’s customer care or visit a branch.
- You can also file a complaint through your bank’s app or website.
- Share details like Transaction ID (UTR), date, and amount.
3)File a Complaint on NPCI Website:
- Visit npci.org.in.
- Go to “UPI” under “What We Do” and select “Dispute Redressal Mechanism.”
- Choose “Transaction” and select your issue.
- Enter transaction details and submit.
You will get a Complaint Reference Number (CRN) to track your case.

4) If No Resolution in 30 Days:
You can file a complaint on the RBI Complaint Management System (CMS) portal at cms.rbi.org.in under the Integrated Ombudsman Scheme.
