Indian Railway passenger fare hike

Indian Railway: The Indian Railway has decided to hike fares. This hike does not heavy impact on people. This announcement was shared by the Ministry of Railways on Sunday. Indian Railways has increased the fare for general category tickets by 1 paisa per kilometer for journeys exceeding 215 kilometers. It has also decided to increase the fares for non-AC classes of Mail/Express trains and all AC classes by 2 paise per kilometer.

For example, if a passenger travels 500 kilometers on a non-AC train, they will only have to pay an additional 10 rupees. The new fares will be effective from 26th December, 2025. The railways have clarified that these changes will only apply to passengers traveling long distances. Commuters, those traveling on local trains, and those traveling short distances will not face any additional burden.

Officials stated, “There has been no increase in the fares for monthly season tickets on suburban trains and for general category travel up to 215 kilometers on other trains.” This decision has been made by striking a balance between passenger convenience and the financial needs of the railways. Despite rising costs, the fare increase has been kept minimal to avoid a sudden shock for passengers.
