IIT Graduate Who Chose Washing Clothes Over a Desk Job—and Became a Millionaire
From IIT Classrooms to Laundry Rooms: How This Man Built a Million-Dollar Business: In today’s digital world, many services have moved online, and laundry is one of them. Earlier, people depended only on local laundries. Now, online laundry services are becoming popular and earning crores in revenue. Arnabh Sinha, an IIT Bombay graduate, turned this idea into a successful business.
Arnabh founded UClean in 2016 with an investment of ₹20 lakh. He launched an online laundry service that allowed customers to book laundry pickups through an app or website. Today, UClean’s annual turnover has crossed ₹160 crore.
Early Life and Education:
Arnabh Sinha comes from Bhagalpur, Bihar. He showed exceptional talent from a young age. When he was in 8th grade, he taught students from 11th and 12th grades. His dream was to study at an IIT.
Although he secured admission to IIT, his family struggled to pay the fees. Arnabh’s father worked as a teacher, and his income was limited. To support her son’s education, Arnabh’s mother sold her wedding bangles. With her sacrifice, Arnabh completed his studies at IIT.
High-Paying Job but Bigger Dreams:
After graduating, Arnabh received a job offer abroad with a salary of around ₹84 lakh per year. He got married and started his professional life, but he did not feel satisfied with his job. He wanted to build something of his own.
The Birth of UClean:
UClean was not Arnabh’s first startup. He earlier started a company called Franglobal, but it failed. Later, he worked at Treebo Hotels, where he got the idea of starting a professional laundry service.
He left his job and opened his first UClean store in Vasant Kunj, Delhi. His family did not support his decision at first, but Arnabh stayed focused and continued working hard. His efforts paid off, and UClean grew rapidly. Today, the company earns over ₹160 crore in revenue.
How UClean’s Online Laundry Service Works:
Orders: Customers book a pickup using the UClean app, website, or WhatsApp. A delivery executive collects the clothes from their home. The team tags each item with a barcode to track it properly. After washing or dry cleaning, UClean delivers the clothes within 24 to 48 hours. Customers can track their orders in real time and pay digitally.
Transparent Pricing:
UClean offers clear and honest pricing. The company charges for wash-and-iron services by weight (per kg) and for dry-cleaning services per garment. If the order value crosses a certain amount, customers get free pickup and delivery. There are no hidden charges, and customers can choose their preferred pickup and delivery time.
