The Finance Minister presented the Economic Survey 2025-26

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Economic Survey 2025-26: The Economic Survey, presented in Parliament on Thursday by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has projected India’s GDP growth between 6.8% and 7.2% in FY 2026–27, pointing to strong economic fundamentals and steady growth.

The survey said recent policy reforms have raised India’s medium-term growth potential to around 7%, while growth risks remain balanced due to strong domestic demand and improving macroeconomic stability.

Tabled ahead of the Union Budget on February 1, the Economic Survey 2025–26 reviews the government’s performance, the state of the economy, development progress, and key challenges facing the country.

Emphasis on the Electronics Sector in the Economic Survey:
The Economic Survey specifically highlights the rapid progress of India’s electronics sector. In fiscal year 2022, it was India’s seventh-largest export category, but by fiscal year 2025, it has become the third-largest and fastest-growing export category. Electronics exports surged to $22.2 billion in the first half of fiscal year 2026, positioning the sector to soon become India’s second-largest export sector.

According to the report, this growth is primarily driven by a rapid increase in domestic production and exports, with mobile phone manufacturing playing a crucial role. The value of mobile phone production, which was approximately ₹18,000 crore in fiscal year 2015, has increased to ₹5.45 lakh crore by fiscal year 2025. This nearly 30-fold increase reflects India’s growing manufacturing capabilities and the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
