Budget 2026: An announcement has been made in the budget for female students: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026 in the Lok Sabha on Sunday. In her budget speech, she announced that the government will set up a girls’ hostel in every district of the country, which currently has over 700 districts.

She also introduced a loan-based capital subsidy scheme to support veterinary colleges, hospitals, and diagnostic laboratories. In addition, the budget includes plans to upgrade AYUSH pharmacies and drug testing laboratories in Jamnagar, Gujarat, along with the World Health Organization’s Traditional Medicine Centre. The central government will also assist five university townships located near major industrial and logistics hubs.

Focusing on infrastructure, the Finance Minister said development will continue in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities with populations above 5 lakh. To promote sustainable transport, the government plans to build seven high-speed rail corridors connecting major cities. A new scheme will also help states set up five regional hubs to boost India’s medical tourism sector.

For 2026–27, the debt-to-GDP ratio is estimated at 55.6%, while public capital expenditure is proposed to be increased to ₹12.2 lakh crore.
