Advertising prices increased, and Approval from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting

Advertising prices increased: The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has approved a 26% hike in government advertisement rates for print media. The black and white advertisement rates for newspapers with a circulation of 1 lakh copies per day have been increased from Rs 47.40 per square centimetre to Rs 59.68 per square centimetre.

The government has agreed to implement the committee’s recommendations for premium rates for colour advertisements and placement of advertisements in preferred locations.

The Ninth Rate Resolution Committee, chaired by AS&FA (Information and Broadcasting), had submitted its recommendations on 23 September 2023 to recommend revision of government advertisement rates in print media.

Government advertisements are issued to print media outlets listed in the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), which functions as a nodal media unit under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The rates of advertisement publication in print media by CBC were last revised by the Ministry on 9 January 2019 on the basis of the recommendations of the Eighth Rate Resolution Committee (RSC), which was valid for a period of three years.
