Aadhaar Now Mandatory for IRCTC Ticket Booking

IRCTC Makes Aadhaar Verification Compulsory for All Ticket Reservations

Aadhaar Now Mandatory for IRCTC Ticket Booking: Aadhaar verification will now be required to book train tickets online. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has implemented new rules. Users will now be required to verify their identity using Aadhaar before booking tickets.

IRCTC says this step has been taken to benefit genuine passengers. This system has been introduced to prevent fraud in Tatkal and Advance Reservation Period (ARP) tickets.

According to the new rule, only Aadhaar-verified users will be able to book tickets on the first day of advance reservation. Those who have not linked their account to Aadhaar will not be able to book tickets on the opening day.

Aadhaar verification has also been made mandatory for Tatkal ticket booking. This will prevent attempts to book tickets using fake IDs. IRCTC claims that this will ensure accurate and transparent ticket distribution.

The Aadhaar-based OTP system was implemented in a phased manner. By December 2025, this service had been implemented in 322 trains. According to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, after this system, the time for getting confirmed Tatkal tickets has improved in about 65 percent of trains. Passengers are advised to verify their IRCTC account with Aadhaar as soon as possible to avoid any problems in ticket booking.
