Share Market: Indian stock markets opened on a subdued note on Wednesday, the third trading day of the week. At around 9:20 AM, the 30-share BSE Sensex was up 0.08 percent or 68.85 points at 85593.69, while the NSE Nifty was trading 19.05 points or 0.07 percent higher at 26194.75.
Among the top Sensex gainers and losers during this period, the gainers included NTPC, Bajaj Finance, Adani Ports, Trent, BEL, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Axis Bank, which saw a rise of up to 0.74 percent. The losers’ list included IT stocks like Infosys, Tech Mahindra, and HCL Technologies, which fell by up to 0.8 percent.
The broader market also saw gains, with the Nifty Midcap 100 rising 0.24 percent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 gaining 0.38 percent. Sectorally, Nifty Realty and Nifty Media were the top gainers, rising 0.91 percent and 0.55 percent respectively.
Global Markets Overview: Asian markets saw mixed trading on Wednesday. Several indices closed early due to the Christmas Eve holiday. Towards the end of trading, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index was up 0.36 percent and South Korea’s KOSPI index was trading 0.42 percent higher. However, Australia’s S&P ASX 200 was down 0.58 percent.
US stock markets closed at record highs for the fourth consecutive session. The S&P 500 set a new closing record driven by better-than-expected GDP figures for the third quarter. US GDP rose 4.3 percent in the July-September quarter compared to the same period last year. As a result, the S&P 500 index gained 0.46 percent overnight, the Nasdaq Composite rose by 0.57 percent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped by 0.16 percent.
