You Will Have To Pay Extra For Carrying Excess Luggage on Trains, Know The Details

Now you will Pay Extra for carrying extra luggage on the train

Did you know that there’s a limit to the amount of luggage you can carry on a train? If you exceed this limit, your journey could become quite expensive. Recently, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw clarified the railway’s luggage rules in Parliament, and passengers need to be aware of these regulations.

The Railway Minister stated that the maximum and free baggage allowance for passengers in railway coaches is already predetermined. These rules have been established to ensure passenger safety, convenience, and to prevent overcrowding in the coaches. This means that the “carry as much luggage as you want” formula will no longer work on trains.

How much luggage can you carry? According to railway rules, passengers traveling in AC Three Tier and Chair Car can carry a maximum of 40 kilograms of luggage free of charge. This is the free allowance for these categories. First Class and AC Two Tier passengers are allowed to carry up to 50 kilograms of luggage free of charge, while a maximum of 100 kilograms can be carried by paying an additional fee.

If you are traveling in AC First Class, you get the most allowance. Such passengers can carry up to 70 kilograms of luggage free of charge, and if needed, they are allowed to carry up to 150 kilograms of luggage by paying an extra fee. The railway authorities may impose a fine if passengers board the coach with luggage exceeding the prescribed limit.
