Pujya Bapu Gramin Rojgar Yojana MNREGA Renamed

MNREGA: The Union Cabinet, in its meeting on Friday, December 12, 2025, took an important decision regarding rural employment. The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) has now been renamed the Pujya Bapu Rural Employment Scheme.

Additionally, the number of workdays under the scheme hasbeen increased to 125 days. According to media reports, the central government has also revised the minimum wage, raising it to ₹240 per day.

The scheme was initially launched as NREGA: This scheme was first launched as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (NREGA). Later, the then government amended it and renamed it the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

Since then, it has been known as MNREGA. Now, the central BJP government has decided to change its name again, renaming it the Pujya Bapu Rural Employment Scheme. The number of workdays has also been increased.
