How much time has the government given to refund the money of the passengers?
IndiGo Refunds: Thousands of passengers are facing huge inconvenience due to problems in IndiGo flights. On December 7, for the sixth consecutive day, around 550 flights were cancelled. The government has issued strict instructions to IndiGo so that the affected passengers can get their money and luggage back as soon as possible. On Saturday, December 6, the Ministry of Civil Aviation directed the airline to complete the refund process of tickets for cancelled flights by Sunday evening. It has also been asked to ensure that the luggage left behind by the passengers reaches them within the next two days.
The ministry stated that any delay in the refund process or non-compliance with regulations will result in immediate regulatory action against the airline. More than 800 IndiGo flights were cancelled at various airports on Saturday.
The refund process for all canceled or disrupted IndiGo flights must be completed by 8 p.m. Sunday, said the ministry. It also directed that any luggage lost due to flight cancellations or delays be traced and delivered within the next 48 hours. The ministry has directed IndiGo not to charge any rescheduling fees to passengers whose travel plans have been affected by flight cancellations.
The ministry has also directed IndiGo to create dedicated cells to assist passengers and facilitate refunds. These cells will be required to contact affected passengers personally and ensure that refunds and alternative travel arrangements are processed without repeated follow-ups. The statement added that the automatic refund system will remain active until IndiGo’s operations are fully stabilized.
IndiGo has announced that it will offer full refunds for all cancelled tickets for travel between December 5th and 15th, 2025. It will also not charge any fees for rescheduling requests. In an official statement, the airline stated that all refunds will be automatically credited to the same payment method used by passengers for booking.
