Labor Codes: The government has made a major decision for all workers and employees in the country. New labor codes have been implemented on November 21st. These new rules aim to ensure timely wages, social security, safe workplaces, and equal opportunities and pay for women. The essential elements of the 29 separate labor laws that existed previously have been distilled into four simple and clear rules. This will provide greater convenience to workers and ease of operation for companies.

The government states that the old labor laws were enacted between 1930 and 1950, when work, industry, and technology were completely different from today. The new codes have been developed keeping in mind modern needs and international standards.

A major change for women: Women will now be able to work at night, even if they agree. Women will have equal opportunities and protections with men in all sectors. This will increase women’s income and employment opportunities.

Transparency in employment and salaries will increase: Under the new rules, every employee will be given a written appointment letter. Timely payment of wages will be mandatory. Employees over 40 years of age will receive free health check-ups. Overtime will receive double pay.

Safety and health are given a major priority: A National OSH Board will be established, which will unify safety regulations across all sectors.

Establishments with more than 500 employees will be required to form a safety committee.

In industries with hazardous processes, even a single employee will be required to have ESIC coverage.
