Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj alleged that PM Modi’s government diverted World Bank funds for Bihar election
Jan Suraj spokesperson and senior party strategist Pawan Verma has made serious allegations that funds allocated for a World Bank-supported project were used by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Bihar assembly elections. According to him, the World Bank-allocated funds were distributed to women voters in the election-bound state under the Chief Minister’s Women’s Employment Scheme. He stated that ₹10,000 were deposited into the accounts of 12.5 million women in Bihar, but claimed that the timing and source of the funds are suspect.
In an interview with ANI, Verma cited information received by the party. He said that the government debt in Bihar currently stands at ₹406,000 crore. The daily interest is ₹63 crore. The treasury is empty. He then said that the party had heard – though he added that this could be incorrect – that the ₹10,000 transfer was made from ₹21,000 crore that had come from the World Bank for another project. He also claimed that “an hour before the election code of conduct came into effect, ₹14,000 crore was withdrawn and distributed among 12.5 million women in the state.
Pawan Verma of the Jan Suraj Party also made similar allegations, claiming that this amount was withdrawn from a World Bank fund of ₹21,000 crore. He said, “Bihar currently has a public debt of ₹406,000 crore. The daily interest is ₹63 crore. The treasury is empty. We have information, which may be false, that the ₹10,000 given to women in the state was from ₹21,000 crore that came from the World Bank for another project.” He said that ₹14,000 crore was withdrawn just an hour before the election code of conduct came into effect and distributed to 12.5 million women in the state. Union Minister Chirag Paswan has reacted to this allegation by the Jan Suraj Party. He asked for the source of Pawan Verma’s data and called his claims hollow. Chirag Paswan asked, “Where does he get these figures and this information?” You are making hollow claims. If you have any facts then present them and the government will respond.
