Sensex Ends at 84,233 While Nifty Records Mild Uptick
Stock Market Highlights: Sensex closed at 84,233 level, Nifty gained marginally: The domestic stock market closed flat at the end of the trading session on Wednesday. The BSE Sensex closed at 84,233.64, down 40.28 points. The NSE Nifty also closed at 25,953.85, up marginally by 18.7 points. Eicher Motors, Apollo Hospitals, Max Healthcare, SBI, and Maruti Suzuki were among the major gainers on the Nifty at the end of the session. Buying in these stocks strengthened the market. On the other hand, stocks like Coal India, TCS, HCL Technologies, Eternal, and Infosys declined, putting pressure on the IT sector.
Auto index gained a strong 1.3%:
Midcap and smallcap indices closed flat, indicating a mixed market sentiment. Among sectoral indices, the auto index gained a strong 1.3%. The PSU bank index rose 1%, while the consumer durables index gained 0.6%. In contrast, the IT index declined 1.7%.
Highlights: The rupee weakened by 14 paise to close at 90.70 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday. Dollar demand from importers and rising geopolitical tensions put pressure on the rupee. Forex traders said the rupee remained slightly negative due to geopolitical tensions and high crude oil prices.
