Market closes with gains, Sensex rises 208 points, Nifty crosses 25,900
Markets End Higher as Sensex Adds 208 Points, Nifty Breaks Past 25,900: The domestic stock market closed with gains on Tuesday. The BSE Sensex rose 208.17 points to close at 84,273.92. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty also gained 67.85 points to settle at 25,935.15. The media index gained nearly 2% during the day, while the auto index gained 1%. The Nifty midcap and smallcap indices also closed with gains of 0.4%.
Top Gainers and Losers Stocks:
Eternal, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, Power Grid Corp, and M&M were among the top gainers on the Nifty. On the other hand, Shriram Finance, HCL Tech, Dr. Reddy’s Labs, Bajaj Finance, and Tata Consumer were among the top losers.
Expert Opinion Market:
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments Ltd., said that a strong return in foreign direct investment (FII) investments and a strengthening rupee have further strengthened investor confidence. However, there were also periods of profit-booking across various sectors. The rally in domestic stock markets was supported by the trade agreement with the US and positive signals from major Asian markets. Investors are now focusing on the combined impact of recent fiscal and monetary measures to revive earnings growth in the coming quarters.
Rupee closed 18 paise higher:
The Indian rupee closed 18 paise higher at 90.58 per dollar on Tuesday, compared to its previous close of 90.76.
