IndiGo Cancels Flights to Multiple Cities Through January 28
IndiGo has cancelled flights to these cities until January 28, citing this reason: IndiGo has announced that, in view of the prevailing situation around Iran, its flights to Tbilisi (Georgia), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), and Baku (Azerbaijan) have been cancelled until January 28. The airline said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that it is closely monitoring developments in Iran and the surrounding region and is reviewing its flight operations with safety as its top priority. According to officials, IndiGo’s flights to these cities typically pass through Iranian airspace. Due to the current situation, the airline is avoiding flying through that airspace to ensure the safety of its flights.
Flights to these cities are 6 to 7 hours long:
According to the report, the flight duration from India to these cities is generally 6 to 7 hours. IndiGo operates its A320neo aircraft on these routes, which do not have sufficient range and fuel capacity for longer alternative routes. Following this decision, Delhi-Tbilisi and Mumbai-Almaty flights were canceled on Sunday. Tensions between Iran and the US have escalated, and there are fears that the situation could escalate into a military conflict.
The airline has advised passengers to keep checking their flight status. We are deeply grateful for your patience and understanding as we make decisions to ensure safe and uninterrupted travel. It’s also worth noting that India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has surrendered more than 700 flight slots at various domestic airports. This move comes after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered a 10 percent reduction in the airline’s winter schedule following significant operational disruptions in early December.
