On Monday, both metals witnessed a sharp surge in prices in the futures market. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold February futures rose by nearly ₹3,000, or more than 2%, reaching an all-time high of ₹1,45,500 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, MCX silver March futures saw an even stronger rally. Silver prices jumped by approximately ₹13,550, or nearly 5%, reaching a record high of ₹3,01,315 per kilogram.
Impact of Global Geopolitical Uncertainty:
Global geopolitical uncertainty has increased after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Greenland. This has directly impacted the commodity market. According to market experts, the biggest reason for the surge in gold and silver prices is the increase in geopolitical risks. Trump’s tough stance on Greenland and his warning of imposing tariffs on several European countries have further deepened fears of a potential recession in the global economy.
