EPFO Brings Life Certificate Facility to Pensioners’ Doorsteps
Postmen to Issue Life Certificates at Home, EPFO Launches Free Doorstep Service: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has taken a big, helpful step for pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS). Now, pensioners won’t have to visit banks or EPFO offices to submit their life certificates. EPFO has teamed up with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) to offer a free doorstep Digital Life Certificate (DLC) service.
How Does It Work?
A postman or postal worker will come to the pensioner’s home. They will check the pensioner’s details using their Pension Payment Order (PPO) and Aadhaar card. Then, they will use face recognition technology to create the Digital Life Certificate. If face recognition doesn’t work, they will use fingerprint verification instead.
Once everything is done, the pensioner will get a confirmation message on their phone. The certificate will also be available online on the Jeevan Pramaan portal. EPFO will cover all the costs, so pensioners don’t have to pay anything. To use this service, pensioners can call the IPPB Customer Care number at 033-22029000 to book a home visit.
Clearing Old Pending Cases:
EPFO is giving priority to cases where pensioners’ Digital Life Certificates have been pending for over five years. Cases pending between two to five years will be handled next. EPFO plans to clear all pending cases by March 2026.
If the postal worker finds out that a pensioner has passed away during their visit, they will report it immediately. This helps EPFO either start the pension for the eligible family member or close the pension case without delay. Zonal offices are also monitoring this closely.
For Tech-Savvy Pensioners:
Pensioners who are comfortable using smartphones can generate their Digital Life Certificates themselves using the Jeevan Pramaan or UMANG apps. But for those who find it difficult, the free doorstep service is there to help. Though this service has been available since 2020, it is now completely free.
Making Life Easier:
This new service will help millions of pensioners by making it easier to submit life certificates and keep their pension payments uninterrupted. EPFO believes this step supports the Digital India initiative and reduces stress for senior citizens.
To use the service, pensioners just need to book a visit via the IPPB app or by calling the toll-free number. A postman will then visit their home and help generate the Digital Life Certificate using Aadhaar biometric verification.
Experts say this move will greatly improve the quality of life for pensioners, reduce their hardships, and help them receive their pensions with dignity.
