The Stock Market will be Closed on 15th January; NSE and BSE cited These Reasons: Both major stock exchanges of India, the BSE and the NSE, will remain closed on Thursday, January 15. Because of the holiday, all trading activities on these exchanges will stay completely suspended for the day. However, the commodity derivatives market will open in the evening session.

Mumbai BMC Election: The BSE and NSE announced this holiday due to the BMC elections in Mumbai. Since the offices of both exchanges are located in Mumbai, they decided to close trading. Earlier, the exchanges had also declared a holiday during the Maharashtra assembly elections last year.

India has four stock exchanges in total. Along with the BSE and NSE, trading also takes place on the Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE) in Kolkata and the Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India (MSE) in Mumbai.

The BSE and NSE operate five days a week and remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays. They also close on major festivals. In 2026, the stock market will observe 15 holidays due to festivals. The first market holiday of this month will fall on January 26, on the occasion of Republic Day.

Market Performance Update: Domestic stock markets closed higher on Monday. After falling for five straight days last week, the market recovered today. The market opened in the red, but buying picked up later in the session.

At the close of trading, the BSE Sensex rose by 301.93 points (0.36%) to settle at 83,878.17. The NSE Nifty 50 gained 106.95 points (0.42%) and ended at 25,790.25.
