The Union Budget will be presented on February 1, Here is the schedule
Budget Session 2026: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget for the 9th consecutive time. This time, the budget will be presented on Sunday, February 1. President Draupadi Murmu will address a joint sitting of both Houses on January 28, officials said on Friday, citing the probable schedule decided by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.
Schedule of budget session 2026: The President’s traditional address is given on the first day of the New Year’s session. But due to the Beating Retreat ceremony, the two Houses meeting will not be held on January 29. Parliament meeting on January 30, the day the Economic Survey is likely to be tabled. After this, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha meetings will not be held on January 31. The Union Budget will be presented on Sunday, February 1.
Parliament will adjourn on February 13 for about a month’s recess after the President’s address and discussion on the motion of thanks on the Union Budget. Parliament will resume on March 9, and the session will end on April 2, Thursday. Officials said that normally the session of Parliament is adjourned on Friday, but in view of Good Friday on April 3 and the weekend after that, the session may end on April 2.
Till the year 2016, the budget was presented on February 28, but in 2017, the Modi government changed it to February 1. The motive behind changing the budget presentation date is to speed up implementation of the budget provisions and complete the legislative process before the new fiscal year (April 1). This time, the budget will mainly focus on maintaining the momentum of the economy. It is also expected to provide some relief to the middle class.
