The NHAI has discontinued the KYV process for new cars from 1st February 2026

The rules for issuing FASTag have changed, Know the details

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that it will discontinue the ‘Know Your Vehicle’ (KYV) process for issuing new FASTags for cars, jeeps, and vans from February 1, 2026. This check was previously mandatory, leading to hours of follow-up and hassle even after activation. Now, those applying for new FASTags will no longer have to go through this process.

From February 1, 2026, the KYC validation process will be discontinued when purchasing a new FASTag for a new car. Banks will verify vehicle details directly from the vehicle database, and activation will only occur if the details are valid. The post-activation verification process will be eliminated. If the vehicle data is not found in the database, verification will be done using the Registration Certificate (RC). The bank will assume full responsibility. The same rules will apply to FASTags purchased online. This change will save millions of drivers time and fuel.

Routine KYC will no longer be required for currently issued FASTags. If there are no complaints, no verification will be necessary. However, KYC will be conducted only in cases of complaints regarding faulty, incorrectly issued, or misused FASTags. Previously, everyone had to go through this cumbersome process.
