The Indian stock market opened on a positive note on Monday, tracking global cues. The BSE Sensex was trading at 83,446.31, up 230.03 points around 9:23 am. The NSE Nifty was also trading at 25,573.80, up 81.5 points. Major Nifty gainers included Asian Paints, L&T, Hindalco, Jio Financial Services, and Reliance Industries. Meanwhile, stocks like Trent, Apollo Hospitals, Max Healthcare, Maruti Suzuki, and Dr. Reddy’s Labs declined. The Indian market is seeing gains on Monday after three previous sessions of decline, driven by positive trends in Asian markets and buying in blue-chip stocks.
Among the 30 major Sensex companies, several major stocks saw gains in Monday’s session. Shares of Asian Paints, Bharat Electronics Limited, Larsen & Toubro, Titan, Reliance Industries, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Infosys, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, ITC, and Bharti Airtel were seen trading with gains. Shares of Trent Limited, Power Grid, Mahindra & Mahindra, NTPC, State Bank of India (SBI), Adani Ports, and UltraTech Cement declined.
The rupee fell 4 paise to 88.69 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday. The rupee was weighed down by a strengthening dollar in overseas markets and higher crude oil prices. Forex traders said the rupee remains weak amid global uncertainty, citing the US government shutdown, which also provided an unexpected boost to the dollar, PTI reported.
